Michigan Horse Tracks Join in the Excitement of the Kentucky Derby

LANSING - You and your fanciest hat are invited to celebrate one of horse racing's biggest days. Come and join the fun and excitement of the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby at one of Michigan's five horse racing tracks.

"The Kentucky Derby is a great reason to spend the day at one of Michigan's horse racing facilities," Racing Commissioner Christine C. White said. "There is no time like the present to experience the speed of a race horse crossing the finish line. If you haven't been to one our tracks, now is the time to come."

After the simulcast broadcast of the Kentucky Derby, Mount Pleasant Meadows in Mount Pleasant will kick-off its live racing season. Hazel Park Harness Raceway and Sports Creek Raceway will also offer live racing after the major race while Jackson Harness Raceway and Northville Downs will continue with simulcast broadcasts only.

The Office of Racing Commissioner is the official state agency charged with regulating, promoting and serving the horse racing industry in Michigan. During 2008, Michigan horse racing is celebrating its 75th Anniversary of pari-mutuel horse racing in our State. For more information about upcoming events, the five pari-mutuel horse race tracks, racing schedules and Michigan horse racing, visit www.michigan.gov/horseracing.
